The pentacle or pentagram is the symbol of Witchcraft. It is always positioned
in it's upright position. With the SINGLE point pointing to the sky. The five points of the pentacle represents the five elements of: Air, Water, Fire, Earth,
and Akasha or Spirit.

I agree with you that the pentacle or pentagram is the symbol of witchcraft.
But it is upright positioned in the Wiccan rede. It's not always in an upright position in witchcraft.

If I may say some thing. Both signs of the pentical repersents some thing. When it is up right it repersents the light side and when it is up side down it repersents the dark side. Many where the upright symbol because now a days many understand that it's not an symbol of it being evil. Where as since many don't under stand the symbol of it being up side down it is now the up side down pentical that is consider evile.

When in fact the up side down pentical reminds us that there is a darkness. That there must be a balance. If one should place the two to gether they will find a circle. They will also see that saying as above, so below.

Yes, you are absolutely right, "mother". But most people nowadays forget that there is also an upside down one. There is a great trend to the Wicca now and there the pentacle is upright. So, of course, I can understand that it is mostly seen in this position. But it always exists the opposite as well. In any thing and in any person.....so in the pentacle as well.

Yes, you are right about this my dear daughter. In time though the up side down pentacle will come out in understanding just as the up right pentical has done. I'm hoping that one day some one will create a charm, as you have in your alblum, with both of them repersent both sides.

I wear mine inverted (upside down) As a reminder to myself of what humanity can be. you look at it and see the dark. i look at it when I wear it and it's rightside up so I see light in your darkness... That's my veiw on it at least

Does anyone differentiate between the pentagram and the pentacle?

From what I've learned, the pentagram is the symbol of the star representing the Elements, and the pentacle is the altar symbol for the Element of Earth (a pentacle may be a pentagram, but not always...my altar pentacle is a slab of quartz crystal cut from a geode).

Am I the only one who learned it this way?

I believe a pentacle is a star with a circle around it, and a pentagram is just a
star without the circle.

The differentiation I know is the following:

Christine is correct concerning the pentagram. The pentagram is geometrical figure with 5 points, mostly it has the shape of a star, but can also be another 5 pointed form. The word "gram" is greek used in mathematics for figures whose volumina and area can be calculated. It is just a figure without other figures around (like circles).

Now, the pentacle. Some pentacles can show a pentagram. But a pentacle has nothing to do with the 5 point shape. It is an amulet (mostly round, form of a circle) which mostly is worn around the neck. But can be also used as Absynthian is saying as a platform for an altar ..... whatever involves spellcraft. Because the pentacle is an amulet used for casting spells and evoking spirits. A pentacle is usually taken within a magical circle or triangle to support power and make spirits obedient or for Wiccans perhaps you can say stimulate the goddess to your favour. It can be of all materials you can put/draw some signs or figures on: paper, wood (carving), metal (engraving), even sand when you depict a magical circle in the sand.
