I find it intriguing. This is a whole new side to the legend and poses even more questions.

That's really interesting.
The things that people believed back then were so strange.
And the Great Plague was definately one of my favourite periods in history.. ^^

To me it sounds like some poor dead sole had a stone shoved into their mouth because of ignorance and fear.

Not really anything like the topic suggests. Savage is right. This is just one way that myths came about.

They never said it was a real vampire. But from every myth is a truth. These myths came about because of behavior of many things - whether it be the person prior to death like Lady Bathory or afterward when the body bloats and leaks blood from the mouth. They did things like this as precautionary measures...and while they've been written down, it's rare to find actual proof that they did things like stick bricks in the mouth to ensure the "vampire" couldn't return to harm anyone.

Never should we have tarried, not a sigh, nor a touch,

These bodies serve to curb our love,
We two,
We ultimate duet.
In the end, we sing alone,
Our voices rent by fate."

What is a vampire? A human being with a self debit on him or herself due to not living the natural law of life. This is an interpretation about the realism that rules humanity in its rightful ways. Then again, when a human discovers the subhuman nature that survives dead, and puts this nature to practice through ideal sexual love, it's a whole new world of power over matter mainly leading to the living dead - a human spirit wholesomeness carrying on its body after dead.
Certain paranormal laws govern the vampire to live in the flesh, this may vary with the individual and his capabilitites to come out at night only or certain days when the sun is not out, or even when the sun is out, and resistance to be near christian ornaments, or eastern bidirection symbols related to the commonalitites of earth bound time and place in union with paranormal balances, which maybe a high insult to the mind of the vampire. Why? Because the vampire lives ahead of time or contrary to the earth bound natural law due to his superior sexual love beyond or constantly opposing the carnal.
A most interersting thing about a newly self-discovered vampire is certain qualitites associated with pagan values in sexual love as to find a most ideal sex partner who may not have had ordinary carnal sex love at some point, and somehow become partner freely convinced.
...interesting but still a temporary venture! Is the vampire supposed to live on earth in human form indefinitly? Hardly possible! Why? Soul bordom.
