RE: Momento Mori
Oooh lookey here... New one...
Hehe. I'm planning to film this series one day, so I've been trying to make it as realistic as possible when it comes to the Vampiric powers and such. In short, no Hollywood drama if I can help it.
************************************************** *************
The more Shanae thought about it, the more she was able to convince herself that it was the right thing to do. The last thing an immortal Vampire needed was a hanger-on who was as frail and defenseless as a fly in comparison. Not to mention her finite life span, and the clear message that Raphael displayed about why he wouldn’t turn her. It was infuriating he went out and walk the streets at all hours of the night because he was able to. He could get hurt, as he had done many times before. But all he ever cared about is that she was home on time, she was out walking with other people, and that she never went anywhere at night without letting him know. Stupid, stubborn, hypocritical Vampire...
Shane sat up on her bed at last, her eyes finally dry. She knew that this was right. This was the way it had to be. He would be better off without her, better off if he found some nice Vampiress, settled down in a castle in Transylvania and do whatever it is Vampires do together.
God she missed him...
Raphael glided off the school bus and through the gates, weaving gracefully in and out of his fellow students. A few times his name was called, and each time his silver sunglasses would twirl around to pinpoint the location of the voice before he moved on.
Unlike Shanae, Raphael had assured himself that this wasn’t how it was supposed to end. Something like what they had couldn’t just be destroyed through a simple text message. He checked his phone for the millionth time, praying to see a message from her even if just to bid him ’Good morning’, yet none were present. The Nokia was ominously silent, and Raphael hated the phone for it.
The hallways seemed dense without Raphael there to lead Shanae through the masses to her locker. Everyone was pushing against her like an unyielding tide, and she could feel herself drowning without his cool composure to keep her afloat.
As the bell for first period rang, Shanae finally reached her locker and groaned as she saw what class she had first.
There was little talking as Raphael stormed through the halls to his locker. It was odd to see him without Shanae, and rumors already begin flying that the two had split. Many a head turned to stare at him, but he kept moving.
Raphael flung open his locker forcefully - perhaps a little too forcefully considering a small Year Seven child was now unconscious on the floor at his feet - and grinned as he saw his first period class.
The bell rang, and the hallway cleared as if by magic, leaving only scraps of paper and a comatose Year Seven behind.
Shanae was first in to Chemistry, and buried her head in her book to avoid Raphael seeing her. Unfortunately the ploy didn’t work, and he took the seat directly behind her. Though she tried to suppress it, a smile crept up her lips. They used to always sit like this before they started dating, before Raphael ’accidentally’ fell forwards over his table one day in search of a Freddo Frog that had somehow found its way under Shanae’s desk. She was so busy laughing at him that she completely forgot that he made her rip a huge hole in her homework, making it unpresentable and earning them both an after school detention.
It was moments like those that she missed the most; Moments where she knew nothing about his sleeping habits, dietary intake or anything that made him.... Anything that made him who he was.
Raphael’s foot tapped nervously the second he sat down behind Shanae, and he pleaded with every God he knew of (and several that he didn’t) that she remembered the first time they met.
A chuckle shook through the body of the girl in front of him, and Raphael pumped his fist in the air silently as he replayed the scene in his own head.
The first time he asked her out, she had blatantly said no and walked away. He hated to see her go, but he loved to watch her leave. Not that he was staring, mind you. Simply admiring the back pocket of her jeans.
That thought always managed to distracted him, how Shanae looked stunning no matter what she was wearing.
He had seen her at her worst, yet still thought that she was gorgeous.
Shanae spent the rest of the period in agony, debating whether to turn and talk to Raphael or to keep her nose buried in her book. Would he even want her back after what she did to him? A small voice in her head told her that she’d missed her chance, and to move on. But a smaller, yet more honest voice told her that only a Vampire could love you forever, and that’s exactly what Raphael was.
Her thoughts were abruptly interrupted by an announcement over the schools P.A. system. "All students please note, there is to be an assembly in the Hall period two, an assembly in the Hall period two. That is all."
Raphael pondered what the assembly could be about, but kept drawing blanks. Awards weren’t to be handed out till much later in the year, any sporting activites had ended a week ago, and the senior and junior formals went off without a hitch not three weeks prior. As he glanced around the room briefly, a severe feeling of icy cold dread crept into his stomach as the events of the night before trickled back.
Oh no, he thought.

RE: Momento Mori
O.O The caribbean???
And you didn't take me??
Heartbroken...
The poem I spent like, five hours trying to get right haha.
And to continue the show...
************************************************** **************************************************
The school filed noisily into the Hall, anxious to get the assembly done and over with as soon as possible. Even though it meant having to go back to class.
Raphael stood at the back of the hall, hiding himself in shadows; His Vampiric abilities masking him from everyone in the darkness that was around him. He knew he’d need to leave suddenly and silently if anything came up that was... Unfavourable. Raphael waited patiently as the noise died down and the assembly began.
Principle Amos stood before the congregation, flanked by the upper-ranking teachers. From her spot in roughly the middle of the hall, Shanae could see and hear all she needed to while maintaining as little interest as possible. She discretely glanced around and tried to pick out Raphael’s distinctive silver hair from the crowed, but could find nothing of him. The shadows in the corner seemed unusually dark though... Ah, she thought. There he is.
The assembly was, for the most part, disinteresting for both Raphael and Shanae. Something about how pleased they were with how the student body had been acting recently, special mentions for certain people, a free dress day to raise money sometime this month and other stuff.
It was when they had finished with the pleasantries that Shanae’s throat closed up.
"And lastly," Principle Amose concluded with, "Some of you may have heard of the tragic accident that has befallen one of our students. I know that you’re all adults, so I won’t hide it from you. Last night, Raven Blake was found dead in an alleyway under suspicious circumstances. Police are conducting a full enquiry into her murd- Into her death, and we urge anyone with any information to come see me after this assembly. That is all."
Rumours flew through the school like wildfire. "Raven?"
"Dead?"
"How?"
"I heard that she was attacked by an animal."
"No, she was killed by a drug dealer who she owed money to."
Shanae could feel her chest heaving, unsure of whether to trust her gut or not.
Once the assembly had finished, she had tried to pick Raphael out of the shadows again but had no such luck, he must have done his little disappearing trick again. That almost cemented the idea firmly in her mind that Raphael was responsible for the death of Raven Blake.
Raphael stood outside the school gates, head between his knees in shock. It had actually happened, for the first time in five years he had killed a mortal. He had broken a heart, destroyed a life. He did the only thing he could think of doing, and speed back home at extraordinary speed.
He had to leave this town tonight.
Raphael unlocked his door and found a familiar scent wafting through his house. He froze instantly. How the hell did she get in here? And how the hell did she get here before him? He stepped silently into his bedroom, as if he was hunting. The door of his room opened silently and he saw her, sitting on his bed as if nothing had ever happened.
"Surprise!" Shouted Shanae, somewhat half heartedly. She had no clue how Raphael would react to this intrusion, but she needed to break the silence somehow. Raphael just stood in the doorway, still as a statue.
Finally he spoke. "Why are you here?"
Shanae was taken aback at his gruff tone, but managed to respond. "I... I wanted to ask you something."
Raphael cradled his forehead in his hand. "I think I know what you’re going to ask. And yes, I did."
Shanae’s body slumped, unsure of what to say next. The silence stretched on uncomfortably. "Well, why did you do it?"
Raphael leaned against the door frame. "Do you really want to know?"
Shanae nodded a little too eagerly.
"Because I missed you. It had only been two hours since we broke up, and it had already felt that half of me had disappeared, and I didn’t know how to get that half back."
Tears brimmed in Shanae’s eyes.
"So I found a girl, someone who I could easily transfix and, so my plan was, turn. It was exhilarating. As predators, we have more weapons than we need against our prey, and something inside me wanted someone else to hunt with, someone to share my world with.’
But I couldn’t. I got half way in, and stopped. It didn’t feel right with her, she wasn’t who I wanted. So I did the only thing I could do and killed her."
Shanae sat in a stunned silence, tears falling silently down her face.
"Are you happy now?"
Now it was Shane’s turn to tell her story. "No," She whispered. "I haven’t been happy since three days ago when I was last with you. Since you and I... Since you and I were together."
Raphael crossed the room in a heartbeat and crushed his lips against hers, and pulled her as close to him as he could without crushing her under his brutal strength.
Shanae relished the closeness, savouring every second that she could. She missed his smell, she missed his taste, she missed the way it was impossible to move when he was holding her like this. It scared her and thrilled her all at once. It was the most beautiful feeling she could ever imagine.
She wouldn’t trade it for the world. At last, they were together again.
