Full Moon and Fangs
Part of a looooong story of mine.
Bodies everywhere, drained of blood. Pale, lifeless eyes stared into the abyss of death. Children foully murdered. Blood, masses upon masses of the thick, sickening fluid. Enough blood to replace an ocean. Two womanish figures stood in the dark, laughing in cold silence with each other. I stood around my families corpse’ and wept hard, waiting for them to come for me. But they just stood there. I screamed at them to kill me, but they wouldn’t move. I cursed them with all my hatred, yet deep down I admired such power.
I awoke with a scream, and bolted upright, my face and chest soaked with a cold sweat. I wiped my face with my hands and looked up, it was passed midnight and there was no way I could get back to sleep after this nightmare. Horrifying scenes of past massacres portraying themselves in my mind. Rogue is my name, and I am fifteen years of age with very shaggy black hair and rather pale skin.
I stood up and stretched my aching limbs, “calm down Rogue,” I said to myself, “it wasn’t real. Eryka and Kyla would have killed you if they found you.”
Every time I had a nightmare of those two, something bad always happened. Eryka and
Kyla were twin vampiresses, and they had a horrible reputation of slaughtering entire villages. I had been forced to hunt them because I was the only able bodied person who could wield a weapon with skill left in my village. All the other were killed in the attack.
A faint snap brought me to my senses. Foot prints in my camp site meant somebody had been watching me. They were smaller than men’s feet and there were two sets. The color drain from my face as it dawned on me, “They were here,” I whispered out loud, with a trembling voice. I did not know what scared me more, the fact they did not kill me, or did not take me away for torture. I packed up my stuff, and set out for the hunt. What did they want? I thought.
Very stupid Rogue! Thought my cowardly voice in my head, just run for it and save yourself! I could not do that. My village had died and I had to avenge them. Slowly I slid out my knives as I entered the forest.
The occasional snap of the twig did not catch my attention, as animals traveled all the time in the forest. That is, until I realized they became deliberate. I followed them subconsciously, leading me away into the forest. Shaking branches and rustling bushes brought me out of my trance. I started to shake, I had no idea where in the forest I was, and judging by the sounds, I was surrounded. I spun in circles, trying to see through the darkness.
“What the hell do you want?!” I yelled out, trying to keep the emotion from my voice. Maybe if I was a real hunter I could have stood steadier, but I was not one, did I could not hide my fear.
“We want you Rogue.” The words were clear as day. I stood motionless, letting the dreaded voice drill itself into my head.
Before I could react, another voice came up behind me, whispering into my ear, “and we shall have you.” A split second later, a sharp pain erupted from my stomach, and I blacked out.
