The blows rained down upon her
As she screamed,
No! Please stop! Don't!
Tears rolling down her cheeks.
Her arms useless in defending herself.
His fists smashed against her.
Over and over and over again.
And I sobbed when I told them.
As I tried to relay this feeling.
The pain, humiliation, the utter terror.
Of the first of my countless beatings.
Four years ago.

Now as I look at her in the mirrior with pitiless eyes
And struggle to mask the disgust I feel.
For her, the weak pathetic thing
Who would not expell this thing that is killing her.
She wants it
Sickly she craves it
Needing to be needed.
She deserved her pain.
Earned through inaction.
More than minor infraction.
Rationalizing to herself that he will change.
Her unjustified hope
gained her 4 years of incessant hell

All those around her saw the truth.
Said nothing,
did nothing.
Ignoring the intelegent path.
She chose her fate
with downcast, blackened eyes.
She deserved her pain.
Whether fists, or words, or apathy.

Striking out,
Smashing the mirror
Watching it shatter to peices before me.
Killing her and her pain.
Stepping through and beyond
what once was,
as if it never existed,
never will be again.
