Are Vampires real, was Dracula a vampire?
There are so many stories about vampires, and how people said that Dracula was a vampire. But why did people say that he was a vampire? Wasn't he a real person, right? And are vampires considered living things, or corpses? When did people start making up stories about vampires?

No. Vlad the Impaler was the basis of Dracula, he was real, but not a vampire, there are no people that actually have the ability to expose fangs that suck blood.

Well the myth started because the gums decay faster than the rest of your body after you die. Because of this, the long pointy teeth looked as if they were getting longer. Also, because blood fills the lips and mouth and rupture after you die, it looked as though the dead man with long teeth drank blood. Dracula was a man who died and this happened to him. That is how the myth started.

The real historical Dracula was Vlad "the Impaler." The stories about him being some kind of blood sucking fiend come about because of the terrible acts he did. There is no evidence of anything like the mythical vampires. There are vampire bats that drink the blood of other creatures, but they have no magical powers.

No. "Dracula" was a novel by one Bram Stoker, based very (!) loosely on one Vlad Dracul, an ancient Transylvanian with a rather bloodthirsty reputation.

Vampires are real. I would know this because I am one. Sanguinarian Vampires are one of the most common types and they are the ones that actually need blood. We don't die from sunlight, we have sensitive eyes to it though, some may burn faster than others. We don't have super-strength like you see in the movies. We can't fly around. We also don't have fangs. We drink the blood from donors and our donors are the people us vampires trust. Do I believe Dracula was real? I have no clue. There is evidence that states he was real, yet again the is evidence contradicting that. As of right now only two that I am friends with know that I am a Sanguinarian Vampire. When vampires feed we don't kill either. We drink maybe a half pint to a pint of blood a couple times a week depending on that person's need.

Ok... so I've been reading what people were writing here, and they have absolutley no clue about the origins of Dracula, Except one.I live about 500 km away from the Bran castle and I visit it pretty often since I was a child. The Bran castle is the castle from where Vlad Tepes ruled in medieval Romania. (Then it wasn't Romania the name of the country, and later three kingdoms united, creating Romania)Vlad Dracul (Dracul means Devil) was the father of Vlad Tepes (the Impaler) and he was a ruller himself, well renowkned then by his cruelty.Vlad Tepes got his nickname (Tepes means Impaler) from his acostume of impaling people (murderers, thieves) instead of imprisoning them. People feared him so much, that they started talking and inventing things about him. They were saying he was blood thirsty because of his ruthless way of dealing with outlaws. But there were also people that apreciated what he did for the country. And so they say, in our days, here in Romania, a story about him... Once a merchant came in town and asked him personally to guard his treasures. Vlad the Impaler simply told him that he can leave them in the middle of the road. The merchant couldn't accept such a thing, but Vlat Tepes promissed him, that he will pay everything if he gets robbed. so the merchant agreed and goes to bed. The next day he rushed to the road, convinced that his treasures were not there any more, But he was wrong... Nobody deared to touch anything. That's the result of why he was so feared and why the people said he was blood thirsty.I'm sorry if I dissapointed you, but the story of the vampire was based on people talking badly of their ruller.

Exactly. Vlad has ruthless, yes. But he was also a national hero. Not a vampire. I'm Sanguine so I know what it's like. No cape, no bats, no demon. Well, sometimes.

The rumors were created by the Turks and Germans to give Vlad a bad name. There is a drawing of Vlad dining amoung his victims that was placed in a German magazine to turn empires against Vlad.
