Real vampires are not considered corpses. We are very much alive, flesh and blood. That myth just comes from the observations made by people in the Middle Ages who didn't know anything about what happens when a body decays, as mentioned by Me6677.

that is true. only holywood (and some folklore) portrays vampires that way. vlad tepes was not a vamp he just enjoyed sticking people on big bits of pointy wood.

Sorry for being a German....I haven't spread that

Yes the myth were created by the ennemies of Vlad Tépes who owned the surnames "Dracula" and "the Impaler". Dracula is a latin word what simply means "son of the Dragon (dracul)....and has nothing to do with vampires. He was "the Impaler" meant that he killed all his foes and prisoners by impaling them alive. That caused floods of blood and fed a little the mystification foes used to make him a blood sucker.
I really can understand Romanian people liking him because he has expanded the realm and brought some prosperity, wealth and well-being to his folk.

And yes of course, vampires are real but not in the sense as they are mystified in Hollywood, rumours or literature.

True but the whole legend is a bit of a catch 22. Dracula glorified the vampire image and made people more interested in them. This is helpful because this inturn makes people more interested in us. There is also a down side because his image also helped in the religious oppression vampires must face from various christian beliefs. Wether he was a vampire or not cannot be determined seeing as he wasnt popularized on a wide scale intell many many years after his death.
