Oh, so, older vampires are more disciplined? Like in Twilight where the newborns are all monsters and the older ones are more civilised (generally)?

Some what but not in that way, its just that the older one have had more time to learn what they can and cannot do, and use there powers to there full potential, unlike any who have just been awakened, they still have yet to push themselves to see what they are capibale of and make themselves stronger.

So it's like normal people? They live to be 100 years old and then die of age?

well, most vampires still reside within a human body. a body that can be broken like any other. they may die of old age or may not. however, there are vampires that do live longer...quite a bit longer. but i am not one of those, and there aren't many that i am aware of. i would say it like this....even the immortal lie within the reach of death's grasp.

My darling scarelt your starting to sound like me when you say "even the immortals lie within the reach of death's grasps.
Now on the fact of being immortal..that depends on what your willing to believe in..now doesn't it.
Do we enjoy having the money that comes along with such vampires as thy husband and I? Answer..Of course we do. Well, at least I know I do. Yet, we just don't spend our money on our selves. There are fundings in which we give to also. I, my self could not sit here with a good bit of money and not give to those people who will find those who are in need. Do we send personal checks out, of course not, that would be foolish.
Yes, we do hide and yet we don't. It all depends on the vampire their selves. As I say some fiction or stories all have a bit of truth to them. More of the basic stuff that one may want to know.
Vampire_Seeker what is it that your exactly looking for?

We cant die from a cold, or the flu. Do we age, not really our bodies do not. Can we be killed in a car accide,t, no. But as my lovely wife is saying there are ways that we can die. And everyone dies at one point in time, i dont care who you are. When your time is up, it is up.

if anyone has read Harry potter and the deathly hallows...you know the story but for those of you that don't...
"There were once three brothers who were traveling along a lonely winding road at twilight. In time, the brothers reached a river too deep to wade through and too dangerous to swim across. However these brothers were learned in the magical arts, and so they simply waved their wands and made a bridge appear across the treacherous water. They were halfway across it when they found their path blocked by a hooded figure.
And death spoke to them. He was angry that he had been cheated out of three new victims, for travelers usually drowned in the river. But death was cunning. He pretended to congratulate the three brothers upon their magic and said that each of them had earned a prize for having been clever enough to evade him.
So the oldest brother, who was a combative man, asked for a wand more powerful than any in existence: a wand that must always win duels for its owner, a wand worthy of the wizard who had conquered Death! So Death crossed to an elder tree on the banks of the river, fashioned a wand from a branch that hung there and gave it to the oldest brother.
Then the second brother, who was an arrogant man, decided that he wanted to humiliate Death still further, and asked for the power to recall others from Death. So Death picked up a stone from the river bank and gave it to the second brother and told him that the stone would have the power to bring back the dead.
Then death asked the third and youngest brother what he would like. The youngest brother was the humblest and also the wisest of the brothers, and he did not trust Death. So he asked for something that would enable him to go forth from that place without being followed by death. And Death, most unwillingly, handed over his own Cloak of Invisablility.
Then Death stood aside and allowed the three brothers to continue on their way, and as they did so, talking with wonder of the adventure they had had, and admiring Death's gifts.
In due course the brothers separated, each for his own destination.
The first brother traveled on for a week or more, and reaching a distant village , saught out a fellow wizard with whom he had a quarrel. Naturally with the Elder Wand as his weapon, he could not fail to win the duel that followed. Leaving his enemy dead upon the floor, the oldest brother proceeded to an inn where he boasted loudly of the powerful wand he had snatched from Death himself, and of how it made him invincible.
That very night, another wizard crept upon the oldest brother as he lay, wine-sodden, upon his bed. The thief took the wand and, for good measure, slit the oldest brother’s throat.
And so death took the first brother for his own.
Meanwhile, the second brother journeyed to his own home, where he lived alone. Here he took out the stone that had the power to recall the dead, and turned it thrice in his hand. To his amazement and his delight, the figure of the girl he had once hoped to marry, before her untimely death, appeared at once before him.
Yet she was sad and cold, separate from his as by a veil. Though she had returned to the mortal world, she did not truly belong there and suffered. Finally the second brother, driven mad with hopeless longing, killed himself so as to truly join her.
And so death took the second brother for his own.
But though death searched for the third brother for many years, he was never able to find him. It was only when he had attained a great age that the youngest brother finally took off the Cloak of Invisablity and gave it to his son. And then he greeted Death as an old friend, and went with him gladly, and, equals, they departed this life.
We as Vampires are as these brothers. We are as the oldest brother in the way that we can have great power. But we must be careful, for when people know about that power, they will attempt to take it for their own, and, if they succeed, they may attempt to kill us so we cannot take revenge.
We are also as the second brother in that we are very emotional creatures, and we can be driven into insanity by the emotions. This also lends a warning to be careful with what we wish for. He wished for his lover to return from the depths of whatever lies ahead for the deceased. It drove him mad, and we in turn must also take caution.
And some are like the youngest brother. They are wise, and can escape death for a longer period of time. Though one may find it dishonorable to hide from what inevitably waits us all. But others would disagree, such as myself. Really the third brother wasn't hiding. If he were hiding, he wouldn't have had the time to live a full life as the story says he did. I think that the cloak allowed him to live hidden from the FEAR of death, not from death itself.
In the end all the brothers died, but the third brother greeted death as an old friend and went calmly. I think that vampires are given that choice. To accept death at their leisure, is probably one of the most appealing qualities.

I have been reading this and it is a very interesting subject. I have to agree (from personal experience) that some of the fiction books out there do have a bit of truth to them; as do some of the games like Vampire Masquerade.
I have lived many lifetimes and I am very old. Because of the things that have happened to me I have blocked out a lot of things. I am only now just starting to remember things. I still do not know how old I am...but I have been told that I am almost as old as the leader of our tribe. I am a member of the Malkavian tribe. Yes, like in the game, Vampire Masquerade.
I do not tell many that I am a vampire, because as stated in other threads there are those that want to kill us, because they view us as evil. I tell those I trust -- sometimes I won't even tell other vampires -- but normally other vampires can sense it...so, it can be a moot point. lol
I am not sure where I was going exactly with this but I thought I would tell you a little about me because it related to the subject.
Yes, I was bitten, when I was turned. Yes, I bit him back after. I am not sanguine, I am a Psyvampire. My girlfriend is also a Malkavian, but she is only newly awakened (nope not by me...).
Anyway, I know there will be those who don't believe me, but that is okay. I know what I am.
