Learning to Sense Energy
The following is an exercise I recommend to students who are learning how to refine their perception of energy. The technique focuses on the energy of a candleflame but can be applied by extension to energy of all kinds, including emotional energy.
Seat your self comfortably with a candle about a foot in front of you, on a table, a desk, the floor, etc.,
Reach out your hand to the flame (no do not touch it -- that burns -- trust me, I speak from experience *grin*).
Feel how the energy it gives off is transferred to heat. There is a pattern to it that can be sensed. It moves and fluctuates sometimes stronger or weaker. Come to know how the flame moves, and the nature of the sensation as that heat is transferred to your skin. Once you feel you have that sensation catalogued, pull where you are sitting back a foot, and repeat. And repeat, and repeat, each time getting further and further away from the actual flame.
The nature of the flame does not change the farther you get from it. And as you practice, you will find your self able to perceive it at a distance as easily as if it were there in front of you.
Now start over. only this time reach out without your hand(s). Let your mind find the perceptions you have already mapped. Feel the peaks and flows and how they move without the need to use your hands as a conduit for the energy.
This is an exercise that can be applied to almost anything. There are
energetic patterns to everything around us. I use a candle's flame merely because the heat is a tangible force able to be easily measured. Once you feel you have a strong handle on this try sensing how the energetics moves through a room, or a plant.
One note of caution: I strongly suggest learning to shield your self before you try this technique on another person. The how is the same, but the effect can be much stronger. For a projecting or receiving empath, learning how to block the flow of information is also paramount.
A candle is a candle. A person, on the other hand, is great big ball of hopes, dreams, losses, joys, and pains. Often your first dose of that level of awareness is overwhelming to say the least. And you end up having to sort yourself back out of the mess of the one you are trying to sense.
