I have always know the year 2012 as the spiritual awakening of the world, and I have thought of this world connecting to other realms.

Honestly, there has been no definite prediction as to what is going to happen in the year 2012. THere are so many differnt theories, but nothing is for certain. Me personally, am hoping that it will be when the scientific community and the religions of the world will collide and begin working together as one entity. My guess for this is that science will finally be able to measure and record chi, which will bridge the gaps between western and eastern medical sciences, and then from there make the transitions from the eastern philosophies to all other supernatural phenomena. If what we do can be measured, then science and magick will become one. After all, what is magick other than that which science cannot yet explain?

it's the end of the myan calendar. Their calendar is based upon the fact that time is circular and that events repeat themselves. They've efectively mapped out several thousands of years of time based upon that principle. The end of the calendar mearly means it's the end of the largest 'wheel' of time they could measure (which, if memory serves me correctly, is 26,000 years) that they bothered to map out. They predicted some kind of global changing event, possibly the end of the world, would occur at the that time.
