That turns the whole idea into lame. If everyone was a one-person band, it would take away from guys like Varg, who was one of the key players in starting the scene (besides Venom calling their album "Black Metal").
I've never been to a Scandinavian country, but I want to go- it'll give me perspective on where the music comes from.
It would be like going to the Bronx in New York City to touch roots with hip hop. Or going to where British punk started.
I agree that Xasthur is a downer. With songs titled "May Your Void Become as Deep as My Hate", it really drives the point home that Malefic is only filled with misery and hatred.
I DO realize that the scorn is often the focal point of the musical genre, along with a lot of times, Anti-Christian elements (usually favouring either Satan or pagan beliefs instead) but yeah, it does get depressing.
While not black metal, some of the as it's called, "stoner metal" like Electric Wizard is really great. I've yet to hear their contemporaries such as Acid King and Kyuss, but some day soon.... lol
I believe a better name for nu-metal is "Entry-level garbage", because that's what it is. I still like it, but I'm also a fan of the real stuff, which is important. For people who to say they are just a Slipknot or a Manson fan (or both!) is trying to say that Good Charlotte and Simple Plan are punk rock, and that Hot Topic is a good store to go to, no offense if you go to the place for clothes.
I like Burzum, Gorgoroth, Immortal, Celtic Frost, Xasthur.... this band called Wolves in the Throne Room..... on other forms of metal, I like Kamelot, Metallica, Fear Factory.... the list goes on, but I've set up my little list here going from tr00 kvlt to just poppy, and these bands are like Dragonforce, the new Metallica sounds (post- Black Album for me is where I draw the line from old and new), a lot of nu-metal bands like Mudvayne, Drowning Pool etc.... stuff like that.
