herbalism and witchcraft
I was thinking about practicing herbalism, the herbalist I spoke to is wiccan and explained it!but it all sounded like witchcraft to me!
But I thought herbalism is making healing botanicals from plants and such!Isnt it??
But she was talking about casting spells and stuff like that.
Sooo I dunno!

RE: herbalism and witchcraft
yasmine,
Herblism can be used in spells. Just not a lot of people think about it as a every day use. Yes, herblism is as you thought it to be thy friend. Go,online or to a book store and look up things on herblism. You, will see that there are a lot of info on how to heal. Such at garlic can be good for blood presure. Lavender smoke good for calming ones mind. Rosemary tea will help with the nervs and such.
Don't worry sweet heart. Herbs are nothing but plants. All religons use plants or herbs in one way or another. All meds had to start from some where. Plants are the first meds of man kind. Before science came into play in our world of now a days.

I got a pestle and mortar for my birthday. Its made of soapstone. I am curious if it is ok to use with all my herbs and not cancel out any of their properties

Yes, soap stone is actually very good for a mortar and pestle. Soap stone keeps heat in very well. In the old days people use them as hot plate on those old cast iron stoves because it keep heat in for so long. Soap stone was used for many things such as keeping one boats warm.
Now, I'm not sure but it may be possible that you could creat this heat, small amount, by rubbing the two together long enough. If so then this would bring your spell or even just herbal meds a better blending or bit more powerful.

I think that as long as you use herbs for a purpose (healing, witchcraft, or whatever), then you could be considered an herbalist.

Yes. Witches do use herbs in their magick. They use a lot of tools in their magick. It all depends on what kind of magick they are doing.
There is:
Herbal Magick
Stone Magick
Color Magick
Candle Magick
Just to name only four.
