Has anyone else here read this book? It's a truly amazing work of literary art, and I think many people here would appreciate it. The book is written by Mike Mignola (of Hellboy fame) and Christopher Golden. Also within the novel are various illustrations, by Mignola himself. The novel is very gothic, very atmospheric, and has been hailed as a vampire classic by several critics.

The story goes something like this: During WWI, Captain (eventually Lord) Henry Baltimore loses his entire Platoon after a very bloody battle, and finds himself horribly wounded. However, while he lays among the corpses of his fallen soldiers, he is attacked by a monstrous creature, somewhat resembling a bat, which tries to eat him, while others feed on the "fresh" corpses. He wounds the creature in the face, scarring it horribly. However, not only is it more than just a strange creature, but now, because of it's disfigurement, the creature plans on waging a whole other war on Baltimore, who must assemble a team of soldiers that can help him combat the powerful evil. The story is told by three people at a bar who all knew Baltimore at various stages of his life.
